This book is about a boy named Tim Meeker. He was growing during the
American Revolution. His brother, Sam, joined the American Revolutionary Army, while Tim's father was a Tory who did
not approve of the war.
For my summer reading project, I read “My Brother Sam is Dead” by James Lincoln Collier
and Christopher Collier. It is about a boy named Tim Meeker. His brother joins the Patriots to fight against the British army.
Tim’s father was a Tory and did not believe in the war. Tim ended
up having to take care things around their tavern with only his mother after his father was killed on a British prisoner ship.
I thought that it was a great book because I like to read books that deal with war. Also, I liked this book because it captured the drama of losing a father and a brother
to a war. If I were Tim, I probably would have done most of the things he did,
like trying to rescue my brother, or trying to trick the cow-boys.
I would recommend this book to others because it describes what it was
like to be in the war. It also depicts the life of running a store with scarce
supply because of price increases due to war. I learned from this summer reading
that living around when a war was going on in the country you live in must have been very hard. I’m glad that I live in a country that does not have war going on in the country.
